Frequently asked questions

How it works, what it costs, what happens to your photo, and how to cancel.

How it works

What does 80s Filter do?

You upload a photo and an AI image model restyles it into a 1980s-style portrait — period hair, wardrobe, lighting, film grain and a synthwave backdrop — while keeping your face, bone structure and expression. It is a full restyle, not a colour overlay.

Do I choose the style or write a prompt?

No. 80s Filter applies one fixed look — a mid-1980s restyle. You only choose the photo. See how to make an 80s version of yourself.

How long does it take?

Usually 20–60 seconds per image. You can watch the progress on the page.

What photo should I upload?

A sharp, evenly lit, front-facing photo of one person, framed from the chest up, with a simple background. Full checklist: best photo for an 80s filter.

Will it look exactly like me?

It keeps your identity, but hair, clothing and lighting are reinvented and results vary between runs. It is meant to be a fun costume, not a perfect likeness.

Why did my result look off?

Almost always the input photo — low resolution, hard shadow, an extreme angle, sunglasses, more than one person, or a heavy existing filter. See why your 80s photo looks wrong.

Can I use it on a couple or group photo?

It works best on one face at a time. Restyle each person from a solo photo, then assemble the set. Details: 80s filter for couples and groups.

What devices does it work on?

Any — it is a website. iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows, in any modern browser, nothing to install. See using 80s Filter on any device.

Plans and billing

How much does it cost?

Weekly is $7.99 and includes up to 7 images per rolling 7 days. Yearly is $49.99 and includes up to 10 per rolling 7 days. Prices are in USD; some regions are billed in local currency at checkout.

Is there a free trial?

No. 80s Filter is subscription-only with no free generations. If you want one throwaway image, a free social-app lens is the better tool — see is there a free 80s filter.

Is it unlimited?

No. It is metered — 7 images per week on Weekly, 10 on Yearly. Unused images do not carry over to the next week.

Does a bad result use one of my images?

A completed image counts even if you dislike it. A generation that fails does not count.

Who processes payment?

Polar, acting as our merchant of record. They handle checkout, billing and tax. We never see your card details.

How do I cancel?

Open your Studio and click “Manage subscription” to reach the Polar customer portal, where you can cancel or switch plans. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the period ends.

Can I get a refund?

A period is non-refundable once you have generated at least one image in it. If you were charged in error or a technical failure stopped you generating, email admin@try2.app within 7 days. See the refund policy.

Privacy and rights

What happens to my photo?

It is sent over an encrypted connection, through a relay we run, to our AI provider (fal.ai, running OpenAI GPT Image 2) solely to generate your image. It is not kept on our servers afterward and is never used to train AI.

Do you use facial recognition?

No. No facial recognition, no faceprint or biometric template, no age/gender/emotion analysis, no database matching. The model reads pixels and generates pixels. See the face-data guide.

Where are my finished images stored?

In Cloudflare R2 storage, tied to your account, so they appear in your Studio. We keep the 12 most recent per account. You can request deletion any time.

Can I use the results commercially?

You keep ownership of both your upload and the generated image, so yes — provided you have the rights to the source photo and every identifiable person's consent, and you follow any AI-disclosure rules where you publish. See can you use AI 80s photos commercially.

Can I upload a photo of someone else?

Only with the permission of everyone identifiable in it. That is a condition of the terms.

How do I delete my account and data?

Email admin@try2.app from your account address and we will delete your account and stored images.
